The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has approached the Department of Parks and Gardens with a proposal to secure about three acres of land at Cantonments in Accra for the development of its permanent headquarters.

Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, proposed in a letter dated August 20, 2026, outlining plans for a purpose-built facility that would accommodate the institution’s growing administrative, technical, commercial, regulatory and operational activities.

Rather than an outright acquisition of the land, GoldBod is proposing a barter arrangement that would see it provide infrastructure to the Department of Parks and Gardens in exchange for the site.

Under the proposal, GoldBod would finance and construct a new administrative headquarters for Parks and Gardens, along with logistical and other supporting facilities to be determined jointly by both institutions.

In the appeal for the proposal to be considered, Gyamfi persuaded the Department of Parks and Gardens to accept the deal.

“We will also be grateful if the Department can seek all necessary approvals, if so minded, for this barter arrangement. We look forward to your favourable consideration and to engaging the Department on the modalities for taking this proposal forward. Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration,” he said.

According to GoldBod, the arrangement could provide long-term infrastructure benefits to both parties while ensuring that the Cantonments land is used for institutional purposes.

The request comes as GoldBod continues to expand its operations following the passage of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

The institution is responsible for activities including the purchase, aggregation, assaying, valuation, refining, sale and export of gold and other precious minerals.
