Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has accused President John Dramani Mahama’s government of using the 24-hour market concept to cover up what he describes as its failure to implement the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s campaign promise of a “1-3-3” policy.

According to the MP, the government should acknowledge that it has failed to deliver on the manifesto promise and apologise to Ghanaian youth who supported the NDC based on its employment-related commitments.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Kennedy Osei Nyarko wrote: “The 24 hour market concept which’s being implemented by President Mahama and his NDC Government is an attempt to cover up their inability to implement their formula 1-3-3 policy.”

He further called on the government to accept responsibility for what he considers a broken promise.

“The Government should accept that they have failed on its Manifesto promise and apologize to the Ghanaian youth who bought into this idea and voted massively for the NDC,” he stated.

The Akim Swedru MP also questioned how the government’s 24-hour market initiative would directly address unemployment among university graduates.

He urged critics to consider the situation of an unemployed graduate and ask where such a person would fit into the 24-hour market system.

“Before you come here to either insult or attack first ask yourself as an unemployed university graduate where in the 24 hour market will you fit or will be employed to make an ends meet,” he wrote.

The 24-hour economy initiative is being promoted by the Mahama administration as a strategy to expand economic activity, create jobs and increase productivity by encouraging businesses and selected sectors to operate beyond traditional working hours.
