Ghana's 1,200MW Thermal Power Project on track - Dr John Jinapor

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed that he has engaged the Ghana Thermal Power Limited, the special purpose vehicle established by government to oversee the execution of the country’s 1,200MW thermal power initiative.

In a Facebook post on May 28, 2026, the Minister said he was thoroughly briefed on the significant progress regarding the project’s implementation.

“I was thoroughly briefed on the significant progress made so far, including ongoing preparatory and implementation efforts aimed at delivering reliable and sustainable power generation capacity for the country,” he noted.

Dr Jinapor expressed confidence that the project is advancing steadily and will play a key role in strengthening Ghana’s energy sector.

“The progress achieved thus far is a strong indication that this landmark initiative is firmly on course and will play a transformative role in the development of Ghana’s energy sector and the broader economy,” he said.

He further reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.

“Government remains firmly committed to increasing generation capacity to ensure power stability and the consistent supply of electricity at all times, in line with our broader vision of building a resilient, efficient, and future-ready energy sector for national development,” the Minister added.
