@Efo it may be gimmick to you but clearly the money from this transaction is coming to the State 100% ( of course we are not expecting Damang to sell 100% to GoldBod subsequently, there are other foreign interests, to be fair). Wontumi would have spirited all into thin air under Nana Addo. What this gesture simply means is that Ghana henceforth will benefit substantially from its gold minerals as against ownership by foreigners with larger shares.

Just imagine the country nationalising it's Gold reserve by allocating all concessions to indigenous mining firms and buying all their output as a policy for onward sales by GoldBod. I bet the country would've transformed without loans and foreign aid in no less a time. Going forward, the gov't must not renew or extend concession lease to any multinational mining firm. These guys aided by some greedy leaders of our own are the reason our country is still underdeveloped. The days of allowing crooks to gang up and rape mother Ghana must stop NOW!!!

Once upon a time, Goldfields returned a mine they had fully built to Ghana, and the sitting president gave the mine to his brother.
His brother now sells gold to Ghana.

They just took over the mine. So when did they start mining and are able to sell gold? Is this what they call create, loot and share?

It’s seems too good a story. 110kg of Gold sold to GoldBod so soon. Was this unsold gold that Damang was holding to sell in the future for higher price?
