The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on the National Labour Commission (NLC) to take legal action against the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) over its ongoing nationwide strike.
The NLC has already declared the strike illegal and directed the Association to immediately call off the industrial action and resume work.
In a ruling issued on Thursday, the Commission stated that the strike contravenes Sections 159 and 160 of the Labour Act 2003 Act 651, which require a minimum of seven days’ notice to both the employer and the Commission before embarking on a strike.
The decision followed CLOGSAG’s failure to appear before the Commission when the case was called on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, despite an earlier directive issued on March 5 for both parties to reconsider the planned action.
CLOGSAG, however, proceeded with the strike on March 9, 2026, leading to the withdrawal of services across several ministries, departments and agencies nationwide, and causing significant disruptions to public service delivery.

Speaking on Ahotor FM on March 14, 2026, Abraham Koomson said the Commission’s next step should be to seek a court order to enforce its directive.
He warned that continued defiance of the Commission’s ruling could expose the leadership of CLOGSAG to legal consequences, including possible arrest for contempt of court.
Koomson also questioned the timing of the strike, noting that the concerns being raised by the Association date back to 2019.
The industrial action is aimed at pressing for the implementation of agreed conditions of service and a new salary structure. However, despite the NLC’s directive, members of CLOGSAG have remained on strike, prolonging disruptions in the public sector.
Koomson reiterated that failure to comply with a potential court ruling could result in sanctions against the Association’s leadership.
