Baah Abdullaih, cashew farmer in the Bono Region has called for a policy framework to regulate the pricing regime in the local cashew market.

He said with the policy in place, cashew farmers would derive the optimum benefits from their tirelessness and thereby enhance the production of quality nuts.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Amasu, Abdullaih, who is the 2025 Dormaa Central Municipal Best Farmer, said it was unfortunate that after their hard work, buyers always short-changed the farmers because there was no uniform price local cashew market.

He said a well-structured market control price for cashew nuts would sanitize the sector and thereby motivate the cashew farmers to increase production and boost quality yields.

Abdulliah said, “Just like cocoa farmers, we also need cashew farmers card,” he stated, and called on the government to expedite action for the establishment of the Cashew Board that would coordinate, facilitate and promote the interest of cashew farmers.

He said the Board was required to represent and advocate solutions for the concerns of the cashew farmers in the country, calling for a stronger farmer association to push the interest of the cashew farmers.

Abdullaih said the cashew sector also needed extension officers like the cocoa industry if the cashew sector could thrive for the nation to derive the optimum benefits from the economic tree.
