  John Mahama's father was a Minister in Nkrumah's government right. Instead letting his children attend secondary school in Accra or in the South, he made them get their secondary school education in the North to take advantage of the free education Nkrumah gave them while he was more than capable of paying their school fees in the South as a cabinet Minister. Meanwhile poor cocoa farmers whose blood and sweat Nkrumah used to provide Northerners free education couldn't afford to send their own children to secondary school and had to settle for teachers training colleges
