Hello Ghanaians.
I would be grateful to the Ghana statistics office if the inflation rate figure being trumpeted is true or real inflation rate.
I think that the basket of goods and services used to calculate the rate of inflation has changed or been manipulated to give a positive outcome for political reasons. Because I ask questions about the prices of ordinary foodstuff in the country and despite the fall in fuel prices, nothing has improved. Some prices are even higher than before NDC government came to power. So I want to know how they calculated the latest figure and what were the components of goods and services used.
In Accra transport fares are beyond the reach of ordinary commuters. Tro tro fares are double what they used to be. In some areas rising from twenty cedis to forty cedis.
Massaging figures to impress the followers of your party is not a policy. Buying and selling gold is not a policy. Setting up a body to run a 24-hour economy is not a policy.
As usual the country has fallen into the hands of people who barely know anything about public finance and administration. There are no policy directives other than hollow announcements. There are no public sector investments that can drive the economy forward. The government is sitting on the budget allocations without spending. It happened last year and it is happening again. Such callous treatment of the people is unreasonable. Headlines do not grow economies. Proper and meaningful policy directives and serious investment in public services moves the nation forward. Any government that is not paying workers or employing new people or not investing in any new initiatives can obtain an inflation rate that is impressive to read. The government must act now to build the future it was voted to do.
