Regarding the 2025 budget, the President pleaded with Labour to accept what government could afford considering the bottomless pit of debt left behind by Akufo Addo and Bawumia. Labour agreed based on improvements in subsequent years but is this really what was promised. Austin Gamey further rubs it in by proposing an 8.5% increment and hinging it on the rate of inflation. What is true is that public sector wage pay for a very long time has remained low. Workers have as a result suffered the brunt but this is not their fault. In the wake of economic indicators improving, the real cost of goods and services has resulted in reduced basket of goods and services. And is it true that salary increases of beyond 8.5% could trigger higher inflation? Have we really reached the rate of equilibrium where a change in one factor could cause a change in the equation? No, I don't see it that way. Workers and pensioners alike are saddled with debt and this is killing them slowly. Government must take a second look at the compensation for workers if we want to talk about productivity. Let us go beyond and talk about the income disparity. Until these issues are addressed, it's going to be a herculean task moving this country forward. Let the reset agenda work and work through the participation of all and sundry. Those who don't want to be part could elect to go into exile. Going into exile is different from fleeing the country, though.
