Prof. Yorke, please be circumspect on the comment by the Ghana banking association chairman. All l guess he was saying was that considering the percentage of loan defaulters, Ghanaian doctors constitute a big group among the defaulters.
That the banks approach the GMA with juicy loan offers does not absolve the docotors who defaulted. In most countries (including the developed worrld countries), financial institutions approach or offer juicy loans, or are more willing to offer loans to doctors. This is because by their risk assessment, most doctors are in stable jobs, are relatively paid well (not necessarily the highest paid), the medical community in most societies are placed on a high social pedastel and for some reason, are considered relatively more morally upright.
However, we know that especially the “relatively more morally upright” designation is more of a perception than a psychometrically tested thought. Therein could lie the problem associated with the statement associated to the chairman of the Ghana banking association.
Prof. as an analogy, what percentage of Ghanaian doctors fully pay back government car loans? The unpalatable truth is that some of the doctors take advantage of their position and abuse the public trust associated wwith the medical fraternity in all manner of ways including knowingly getting loans with intention not to repay, among others.
I am certain you and many others in the profession are upright and strive to make the fraternity same, however let us acknowledge that there is also a sizeable proportion of the fraternity who are unrighteous and corrupt minded, not because they are doctors, but rather because they are human beings (who potentially can be corrupt minded).
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
