  The whole issue of SME banking is seriously being misunderstood by moat banks. We can't use corporate banking tools to unlock the issues in SME banking especially the financing of SMEs. The risk appetite of most banks to this market is very low but for the sake of public relations most banks pretend, make too much noise but do very little. For tye banks that venture into this market, they strategically concentrate on the medium to large players leaving out the small players who need help most. How many banks in Ghana have been innovative enough to design products for SMEs that have gone around the problem of the provision of collateral. What products have they put in place to control the primary source of repayment instead of relying on the secondary source of repayment to drive away potentially good local small businesses
