@mr.amin. Ghanaian traders are greedy. They want to make 10x profit from one product. I'm a Ghanaian but I will prefer buying from a nigerian trader than from Ghanaian trader. Why? Because of the high price compared to their nigerian counterparts. Is even cheaper buying spare parts from nigeria than from our own country.

@ PMK, people should stop that "greedy tag" nonsense! Nigerians are not supposed to be doing that in our country in the first place. That is the point. Now, by 2050, according to UN , their population will be 400 million. How many do you want to live in Ghana with you? If you put all the Igbo states and Yoruba states together, you wlll get a landmass of about 70,000 sq miles with a population of about 80 million. . PMK, keep supporting their illegality until you get 10 milliom of them in Ghana, then you will see real Nigerians.

Ghanaian business owners/traders are terribly greedy. Why will the price of spare parts sold by Nigerian traders cheaper than those sold by Ghanaians when these spare parts are literally imported from the same place? While the Nigerians want to do healthy business by making sure that the prices are affordable, the greedy Ghanaian traders want to make 10× profit from one product. Are you aware that some Ghanaian consumers even buy their spare parts from Nigeria because is far cheaper there than in Ghana where these dealers have outrageous prices. We are naturally greedy. When the cedi gained strength against the dollar and there were calls to reduce prices of goods and services, some greedy traders only took away 50 pessewas of some products sold between 100 and 500ghs. How can you sell just a medium size roasted corn at 5ghs? The level of greed in Ghana, I mean the quest by some greedy traders to make profit is nauseating. There's literrally nothing that is priced at 2ghs anymore. The least is now 5ghs. How can we do this to ourselves? Nigeria, despite the volatility of their currency, cost of living is still far better than Ghana.
Perhaps, Ghana needs a price control regime despite that we are a free market economy because even if the cedi to the dollar is 1ghs, I don't think people will reduce prices. It is just pure greed. No wonder we're one of the most expensive countries to live in Africa because of the high cost of living.

When you put all these traders from different countries together; Chinese, Ghanaian, Nigerian, Lebanese, Indian etc and ask a Ghanaian to buy the same product from them, chances are the Ghanaian will shy away from his own Ghanaian trader. I have experienced this first hand. Our customer service is poor, our prices are too high, we hardly make the customer feel like a king. The business owner is the king. The earlier they change the better. As a Ghanaian myself, I buy from them knowing I will not get the best deal available.

Ghanaians should not blame foreigners because we are lazy and don't have the cash or capital. Ghanaians usually choose to rather invest their profits into land acquisition and housing projects rather recapitalisation of their business with their profits or would prefer to buy an expensive flashy car use than reinvestment of their profits into their business to grow .We always have short plans for business growth than long plan therefore any changes in global trade or government policies usually would a serious adverse on our trading capital. Because we lack adequate amount of capital we hardly take advantages of bulk or mass purchases where cost per unit purchase is far more cheaper than single purchase and also enable enjoyment of some form of credit facilities by business owners who buy in bulk quantities than individual traders..What Ghanaians should do is to form a big amalgamation of companies ie corporatives where they can have a big capital and buy or import from one company in India or China so that they enjoy advantages in economic of scale concepts where cost per purchase unit would be lesser and also enjoy credit facilities so that in so doing they can compete with the foreigners.
