  A well-designed Devolution of Power to regional and local authorities will actually start the real development process and accountability in Ghana and our rural communities. The local authorities know their local needs better than the central government and are in a better position to supervise and control development projects. They will be responsible for local schools, roads, hospitals, and sanitation. No one will call on the President to build toilets for them. Moreover, the collection of property taxes will be easier to implement and widen the tax net. However, in Ghana today, government after government over the years talks of decentralization of devolution without any seriousness and definite plans or actions to the detriment of our development backwardness.
