It’s no longer just frustrating, it’s disheartening. The economic managers are undoubtedly aware of the losses many of us have suffered, yet the decision to halt FX interventions now only compounds the damage. Critical sectors like pharmaceuticals saw no price relief when the dollar fell, but the moment the cedi slips, prices surge without restraint. This pattern deepens inequality and pushes more families into poverty.
Injecting over $4.4 billion into the economy to score political points was a reckless move. You don’t deploy a strategy of that scale without a long-term plan. Starting what you can’t sustain only breeds instability and erodes public trust.
That money could have been far better spent, on agriculture, infrastructure, and industrial development. Most Ghanaians understood the gravity of our economic situation. A slow, deliberate recovery would have earned patience and support. Instead, we got a short-lived illusion of stability.
Had the FX intervention been timed for next year, it could’ve been strategic. With dollar buffers in place, the government could have flooded the market to suppress forex rates, settled deferred debts and matured bonds, and then allowed the market to recalibrate organically. That’s what a real strategy looks like, one built on patience, not panic.
Don't stop the FX intervention!

Ghana’s economic challenges are deepening, and the signs are clear: treasury bills are undersubscribed, interest rates are climbing, and I'm predicting inflation to rise by 1–2 percentage points this month. These developments threaten to undermine the credibility of our economic managers not because they lack tools, but because they’ve failed to manage public expectations and sentiment.
Our economy is heavily sentiment-driven. Once public trust erodes, the cedi will spiral downward with unprecedented speed. The NDC has the people behind them and the mandate to act wisely. Their task is not to overpromise, but to stabilize expectations and avoid self-inflicted wounds.
There’s still a chance to restore confidence. Let the cedi find its footing organically. Preserve revenue from gold and cocoa exports. Delay major infrastructure spending until January, hoard dollars in sinking-funds or BoG reserves. And most importantly, communicate transparently with Ghanaians. We deserve to understand the challenges and the roadmap ahead.
The path to recovery isn’t complicated, it’s practical and that has been our problem as a nation right from the go. Revive state farms, especially poultry, and ban import of poultry. Deploy military engineers into public construction. Own the firms, procure the machinery, employ the workers, and cut costs. Even if we can’t industrialize overnight, we must be able to feed ourselves. Fixing agriculture and reducing food imports to below 15% would be a game-changer; the cedis will do well.
Economic management isn’t rocket science, it’s about pragmatism, discipline, and trust.

Reducing forex injection is a big mistake. Why should the Governor bow to world bank and imf?. Ghana government is doing a harm to the country because, if $1 is GHs 10.95 and and the minimum wage is not up to Ghs1000.00, what has the government of Ghana achieved? Economically, if more dollars are injected into the system, every Ghanaian will take his or her job serious and it will lower the cost of living as well. Government should rethink of it.
