Government did increase the farmers share in dollars by 68% compare to last year, but it doesn't translate to 68% in cedis because of the appreciation of the cedi. $3,100 producer price in 2024 was 3100x15= 46,500 cedis, today it is 32,550 cedis.

If you multiply 315 dollars by the current rate of 10.45 cedis to a dollar you get about (10.45×315)=3292 cedis for a bag of cocoa. Currently a bag of cocoa is sold at 3100 cedis. So in essence you've increased the price of a bag of cocoa by less than 200 cedis and you tell us is signifant increase. Shame on you guys. That's just 6.1% increase and you want to do mouth mouth.

Unfortunately for everybody in the cocoa value chain, the cedi has appreciated in the meantime and is trading at 10.50, not 15 to the dollar like years back. That's why in cedi terms the increase is not that much for the farmers.

The price of bag has increased by less than ghc 200 which is not substantial as you promised. And know that prices of goods and services have remained same or even increased therefore your miserable increment of less than 200 cedis a bag does not call for any celebration.

Gh200 cedis is heavier now now it was 6 months ago. It will buy more things at current inflationary value of 13.7 instead of the inflation of 54.8% under Bawumia and Nana. In dollar terms, the farmers are earning much more.

The current world price varies between 5314 t0 7 600 us dollars per tonne. Therefore the increase in price is very close to actual world price. This is an incetive to into cocoa farming as a career.
