It is only in Ghana that one can experience a tax on a tax. You motherfuckers force people to pay VAT on Custom duties that are most of the time 100% or more than 100% of the custom duties levied. This is in addition to frivolous levies like ECOWAS tax, AU tax, COVID tax and a whole range of despicable and mindless levies. With all these State theft levies, do you expect people to ship things to Ghana instead of Lome?
The odious thing about these stealing levies is that, they exempt foreigners like the Chinese, Indians, and Europeans who bring in goods to sell in Ghana from paying these frivolous levies. It seems these levies are imposed on Ghanaians living overseas out of jealousy and envy, and nothing else.
THE WEALTHY TAX-FREE GULF ARAB STATES OF QATAR, SAUDI ARABIA, THE UAE, KUWAIT, BAHRAIN AND OTHERS ARE DOING EXTREMELY WELL WITH ONLY CRUDE OIL AND LIQUIFIED PETROLEUM GAS EXPORTS AS THEIR ONLY PRIMARY SOURCES OF EXPORT REVENUES. 5 months ago

WHY IS THIS USELESS SETH TERKPER SO OBSESSED WITH TAXES IN HIGHLY-INDEBTED GHANA WITH ALL OF GHANA'S COUNTLESS STRATEGIC NATURAL RESOURCES?
JULIUS DEBRAH DECLARED THAT GHANA MADE A WHOPPING US$1.8 BILLION FROM EXPORTS TO CHINA ALONE. WHERE DO ALL OF GHANA'S EXPORT REVENUES GO TO?
WHY ALL THESE ECONOMIC-SHATTERING TAXES IN GHANA? TAXES DO NOT GROW NATIONAL ECONOMIES. VALUE-ADDED EXPORT PRODUCTS DO, AND THE WEALTHY TAX-FREE GULF ARAB STATES OF QATAR, SAUDI ARABIA, THE UAE, KUWAIT, BAHRAIN AND OTHERS HAVE DEMONSRATED THAT IN GRAND FASHION.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH SETH TERKPER, THAT BOGUS "COPY AND PASTE" ACCOUNTANT!
THIS SETH TERKPER GUY IS USELESS. I WONDER WHAT KIND OF COMMON SENSE HE IMPARTS TO THE STUDENTS OF UG, WHERE HE'S SAID TO BE A LECTURER IN ACCOUNTANCY OR WHATEVER.

Thanks my brother for this inciteful write up. Mr Seth Tekper is only talking about tax, revenue, tax, revenue. He is failing to assess everything holistically. Why is government not reducing its expenditure to meet the tax returns? Why is government not ensuring that state institutions post profits rather than the losses? Why are the rich and affluent enjoying some exemptions from the taxes? Why are Ghanaians not paying taxes? How fair and easy is it to engage government institutions for documentations pertaining to nationals setting up businesses? These and many questions need to be addressed. But as usual politicians are politicians and citizens who are to hold these politicians accountable are divided along political lines.

Another failed former Finance Minister, who led us to the IMF for a bailout loan. When will these visionless so called leaders realise that our economic problems are not caused by insufficient tax or levy revenues. Our problem for decades has been caused by waste, corruption, reckless borrowing & spending. As revenues continue to rise on a yearly basis so does Govt spending. We continue to be governed by fools who are incapable of writing budgets where spending does not exceed revenue. Therefore, the only solution these so called leaders can think of to plug financial gaps is more taxes, levies or borrowing. We live in a country with fertile agricultural land & precious minerals. Ghana, should be a rich country not one that has to run to the IMF, every few years for a bailout. Long suffering Ghanaians deserve better leadership than what the NDC & NPP, have delivered since 1992. Ghana, will never progress while these two useless parties continue to govern us. God help & save Ghana.
