It's good. They should increase it the more. E-levy was 1%. This increase is more than 30%.
We haven't seen anything yet.

This new fee is nothing like E-levy. E-levy is a percentage of any amount sent and it’s with all transaction paid via electronic. This is only in fuel and even if 4 cedis when you break it down, it’s nothing.

So what will cause a foreign currency to go up against ours? The dollar hasn’t changed, it’s the cedis that has gained. Use your brain before speaking.

Mahama and the Ndc screwed up when he said he wants to abolish E-levy and betting tax..I wrote a comment here that it was a wrong move by Mahama to abolish the betting tax..Ghana is a poor country..as a govt, if u don’t know how to mobilize funds internally, then u will have to go to wicked ImF to take loans which will bring hardship to your economy..Ghana is still a struggling economy so taxes are important..even in the developed countries, the reason why they are able to sustain their development is through taxes..I will never support or vote for any presidential candidates who lies that he will abolish taxes..it’s not sustainable..there are two ways to govern a country 1. Mobilize revenues internally 2. Or go to IMF or world bank for loans with stupid rules and regulations which will bring hardship on your citizens..so by looking at these two alternatives, mobilizing revenues internally is the best option..Let me repeat, I said After Kwame Nkrumah, Nana Addo is the next best president believe it or not..about 80% of nana Addo’s policies were the best for our economy..the only downfall of nana Addo was he was too slow..without these fuel levy, Ndc has only one alternative that’s to go back to IMF which is not good for our economy at this moment..Taxes are good for every economy, the only problem is how the taxes are used..if I was a president of Ghana, betting tax will be 50%..nothing more nothing less

Ghanaians must stop praising Mahama for the dollar devalued.
The U.S. dollar has experienced a significant decline during President Donald Trump's current administration, falling nearly 10% against a basket of major currencies since mid-January 2025 . This depreciation is attributed to a combination of policy decisions and economic factors:
1. Aggressive Trade Policies and Tariffs
The Trump administration's imposition of substantial tariffs on imports from countries such as China, Mexico, and Canada has escalated trade tensions. These protectionist measures have led to market volatility and diminished investor confidence in the dollar . The uncertainty surrounding trade relations has prompted investors to seek alternative currencies, contributing to the dollar's weakness.
2. Fiscal Policies and Rising National Debt
Recent tax cuts and increased government spending have added approximately $3.3 trillion to the national debt, raising concerns about fiscal sustainability . The expanding deficit has led to higher long-term bond yields and a wider term premium, factors that have exerted downward pressure on the dollar.

3. Federal Reserve Policy and Interest Rate Expectations
President Trump has publicly criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for not reducing interest rates in response to economic indicators such as slowing job growth and a contracting services sector . While the Fed has maintained rates in the 4.25%–4.5% range, the anticipation of potential rate cuts has contributed to the dollar's depreciation.

4. Investor Sentiment and Market Dynamics
The foreign exchange options market reflects expectations of continued dollar weakness, with increased demand for USD put options indicating bearish sentiment . Investors are reallocating assets toward currencies perceived as more stable, such as the euro and yen, further undermining the dollar's value.
5. Strategic Considerations for Dollar Devaluation
There is speculation that the Trump administration may be pursuing a deliberate strategy to weaken the dollar to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. exports and reduce trade deficits. Proposals such as the "Mar-a-Lago Accord" suggest coordinated efforts to devalue the dollar, reminiscent of the 1985 Plaza Accord .

In summary, the dollar's decline under the Trump administration is the result of aggressive trade policies, expansive fiscal measures, anticipated shifts in monetary policy, and strategic considerations for currency valuation.
