The Prof. of Economics does not know this. He is also embarking on falsehood because the cedi was at 14.67 in mid-December 2024. Such intellectual dishonesty is the reason we are where we are as a country. The dollar has weakened because of Trump policies and not on anything the NDC has done. I fact the NDC has borrowed more this quarter than was borrowed in 2024 on the domestic market.

When JM said 'Its the economy stupid', the self acclaimed fake economic messiah was busy telling Ghanaians that the cedi has performed better @17 cedis to 1us$ under his leadership than the 4cedis to 1us$ under the previous JM administration. This fake lying economist who has failed to conduct a simple thank you tour has the audacity to tell us that he still wants to run for president. Ghanaians must be very stupid to vote for him. The 38.2% who voted for him in the last election is an attestation to the fact that many Ghanaians don't appreciate truth and sincerity. No truth loving and sincere person will ever vote for Bawumiah. He's such a liar and very deceitful and ungrateful. Fir denying Akufo Addo no matter how bad he's telling you that he's a traitor and must never be entrusted with power.

I agree that JM has started well on the economy but for this Prof to entirely attribute the appreciation of the Cedi to JM is not only ignorance but intellectual dishonesty and trying to probably catch the eye of the President for an appointment.
As a proud Ghanaian. I will want to see this government succeed but sycophants like this block head of a prof, makes me sick. These are the same people who would derail the efforts of JM by applauding him even when he may be going wrong.

You do have a point. I mentioned to a few friends how the NDC hasn’t done anything special to make the currency stable since the turn of the year. And I was hopeful it would get much better when they fully roll out by FX stabilization and appreciation related policies. It gives an indication that the previous government indeed was doing so many ills which we suffered for . Because by even not doing “much” , the currency is stable .
Indeed fiscal consolidation doesn’t have “MUCH” to do with the fx . It does affect it by a long stretch but I doubt that’s enough to account for a big drop in the rate. Government would have to quickly hit the gas pedal in its plans to make the cedi strong. Now is the time

tighter fiscal and monetary policy, better control of inflows and outflow and an economic policy that is pointing towards agricultural production and processing. the money market managers are factoring all these into their trend analyses for the cedi.
if those buying dollars believe this government means what it says then they will start selling to prevent further losses in the value of their dollars. thereby improving more supply than demand therefore resulting in further appreciation of the cedi.
The Golbod shd also ensure control over gold exports and also shore up the cedi by building gold reserves at the BOG.
And of course also downward pressure on interest rates and TBill rates becauae govt is borrowing less.

Why are people clamouring for the fall of the cedi when inflation is at 23.5%? Some of these so called economists needs to understand that so many people are into export production and that if their push for the cedi to fall it will affect production in the country. There should be a balance between the fall of the cedi and prices of goods and services. If that balance is not struck so many will be unemployed. The fall of the cedi doesn't mean nothing without prices also falling!

You guys simply campaigned on a slogan and didn't write anything concrete down n when power has been handed over to u, you are now knocking heads. Hmmmm. The way Ghanaians will see you very soon? Your defeat will be worse than what the NPP suffered if you think u are going to lie to power.

The improvement now is not sustainable as long as BoG pumps USD into the system. The real change will be seen when cocoa production increases, industry production increses, and price of food crops goes down and galamsey STOPS. Galamsey income and revenue is fleeting and will affect agriculture, and USD exchange rate, and longterm prosperity.

Even if the dollar is traded 1:1 to the cedi and the prices of items remain unchanged, you’ve done nothing. In fact , you’ve rather caused more crisis to Ghanaian consumers and those abroad . Right now the dollar has been depreciating and the prices of commodities have been appreciating. Do you think any Ghanaian abroad who is doing a project back home and understands investment will send any money ? You’re joking masa. You need to make sure the decline in the value of the dollar matches a drop in prices , and also other foreign currencies must decline in value , otherwise expect less foreign direct investment in dollar value , low dollar remittances , etc. I will rather sell my dollar denomination in s different country. So what you guys are doing by continuously injecting more dollar in to the market and injecting less of other foreign currencies into the system when prices of commodities have not dropped but rather going up will end up pricing out those consumers with the dollar and that will have dire consequences on the economy in the long run. Let the forces of the market determine the value of the currencies . I’ll prefer that the dollar remain the same as it was , neither appreciate or depreciate to match current prices of goods and services otherwise some businesses which are vital for the economy will collapse.

It will be unreasonable for anyone to save in dollars in Ghana right now, unless you are a business person and will need the dollar for trades,if not that, your losses will be very huge. In less than 4 months, people have lost about 2.5 cedis to the dollar they bought at 16 cedis. It's time to sell at this minimal loses.
