PROF YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG TO SUGGEST THAT RATE DECREASE IN T-BILLS WOULD SPEED UP DEPRECIATION OF CEDI.I THINK BANK OF GHANA GIVES BEST RATE OF RETURNS ON T-BILLS WITH RISK FREE MORE THAN ANY BUSINESS ONE MAY THINK ABOUT INVESTING IN GHANA NOW.IN MY OPINION AS INTRREST RATE OF T-BILLS COME SO SHALL THE CEDI APPRECIATE BECAUSE THE T-BILLS INVESTMENT IS DEEMED AS RISK FREE WHILES ANY OTHER INVESTMENT IN GHANA HAS LOW RATE OF RETURNS AND HIGHER RISK FACTORS THAN T-BILLS INVESTMENT THEREFORE T-BILLS IS SEEN AS SECURED AND HAS INELASTIC DEMAND EVEN AT 10% RATE ON INVESTMENT BY BANK OF GHANA WHEN PEGGED AT THAT RATE.
You are ignorant. Prof is right. Only fools buy T-bills at the artificially fixed rates. 8 months ago

I know three friends who have bought dollars from mo ies they were using to buy T - bills. Should more people get on board buying dollars there will shortage of dollars, and the forex rate will go up.. artificially lowering yield rates is unsustainable. Very soon businesses will not get dollars to purchase.

As treasury bills and interest rates are below its lowest ebb, the risk of capital flight is eminent. In fact interest rates in Ghana are high in comparison with developed countries, but the latter has low inflation rates. What Ghana needs to focus on is to manage the inflation rate, to bring it far below interest rates to make borrowing affordable and to boost business and investor confidence. Exorbitant interest rates undermine borrowing and stifles development.

We live in a hard times and world of uncertainties, an investment in T- bills even rate of 15% shall assured you of interest without any risk factors unlike most investments in Ghana which has some many risk factors ie dumsor, government tariffs policies, dishonest y,floors, fraud,,wars, rebel activities, litigation, mismanagement, thefts,,international health pandemic ie covid ,meanwhile any foreign capital flights from investors shall never have rate on investments not more than bank of Ghana shall be offering, in Europe and America it may be between 3.5% --5% on RATE on RETURNS. UK before covid you could only earn between 1% -2% on fixed deposits for a year but now it's about 4% whiles in Ghana interest rate on T-BILSS is between 18%--21% which is so high .Bank of Ghana should realise that the demand for their Bils are so secured and inelastic therefore they can still reduce their interest to 10% and still attract investors to purchase because their bills are secured whiles investors won't have alternatives options to invest because of the so many factors associated with doing business in Ghana.

So what is your idea on the on the issue at stake.Talk is cheap.I might withdraw my money from the bank because the 15% rate is nothing to write home about.

Gov't gradually is reducing its competition with private sector for funds.
It is also not wholly true, that investors will invest the excess funds only in forex.
The secondary bond and capital markets are other options to invest in.
Complex investors are also likely to direct their funds into private equity or venture capital investments.
Govts current actions on the Tbill market is likely to redirect excess funds to other deficits units in the medium and long term.
The rush or so to the forex market is just a short term reaction.
