  Remember people chose to invest in the Treasury bills because it provided some relative protection against the crazy inflationary environment. The other superior alternative was/is converting our cedis into dollars to hedge against our money loosing it value. My fear is that this decision may look sensible in the short run but soon these individuals knowing that year on year inflation is above 20% and Treasury bill rate around 18% to 19% will make the rational decision of buying dollars to preserve the value of their investment. The overall effect on the economy, I believe would soon be obvious.

  One of the main reasons why banks are not providing credit to the private sector is because of the high ratio of non performing loans on their balance sheets. If not T-Bills, they may look for alternative investments rather than high risk loans to the private sector?
