Our people are being killed to protect foreign companies that rob us blind. Decades of AngloGold Ashanti’s mining have left Obuasi with nothing—no roads, no hospitals, no hope—while they walk away with billions. Other nations use their resources to uplift their people, but here, we bury ours for foreign profits. This isn’t leadership; it’s betrayal. How much longer will our government sell us out? The blood of Ghanaians is worth more than their gold. Enough is enough!

The situation is complicated, and it’s important to look at all sides. It’s fair to question the timing and details of the attack, but the loss of innocent lives should never be ignored or excused without proper investigation. Innocent people are those who were caught in the middle and had no role in any violence. They can’t speak for themselves anymore, so it’s important to ensure their story is told and to understand what happened from every angle.

As someone who's spent 15 years in the mining sector, I'm compelled to speak my mind about the recent incident at the Anglo Gold Ashanti (AGA) mining site. The actions of the galamseyers were utterly unacceptable. Invading the premises of AGA, a private property, was reckless and irresponsible.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the president's directive for AGA to cover the medical expenses of the injured and the burial costs of the deceased. Why should the company bear the costs of those who trespassed on their property? It's absurd. If someone breaks into my house and gets hurt, am I responsible for their medical bills?
The fact that the galamseyers were armed raises even more questions. What were they planning to do with those weapons? AGA workers, on the other hand, go about their duties without arms. It's a stark contrast.
Let's not forget that mining companies like AGA contribute significantly to the national economy through taxes. Those funds benefit the entire country, not just the local community. If we're not careful, the consequences of such incidents and directives could lead to the closure of AGA, ultimately harming the national economy.
I'm not trying to be insensitive to the loss of life, but we need to call a spade a spade. The galamseyers' actions had consequences, and it's unfair to expect AGA to foot the bill. We need to have a more nuanced conversation about this incident and find a way forward that balances the needs of all parties involved.

Galamseyers wouldn't invade their property. AGA can park and go. For 100 years in mining in Obuasi where are the developments?
