I promised that I was not going to comment that any awardee does not deserve the award. However, Dr. Addison's citation is fraudulent and duplicitous. Under Addison, the bank of Ghana failed in its primary duty of safeguarding and protecting the cedi. The cedi lost 435% of its value. He printed over 42 billion paper money in 2023 alone leading 60% inflation in 2023. Under him, struggling banks with liabilities of 8 billion were closed and consumers compensated but BOG used 30 billion cedis to solve a sector problem of 9 billion. Under Addison, government bonds (internation and local) were defaulted. Current lending rates is about 37% (note that latest treasury bills rate for last week was 30%, thus the massaging of data for 8 years cannot continue).
Addison now has a resident IMF staff dedicated to supervising him and the bank of Ghana. None of all the previous governors including the respected Agama and Duffour dragged Ghanaian financial professionals' credentials this low.

It is unfortunate that partisan politics, propaganda fake information is making it difficult for some Ghanaians to understand what were put in place for the future progress of Ghana by NPP.

Posterity will judge the Nana Addo government's policies, particularly digitisation, education, agriculture, judiciary, defence, police service, general public safety, transport, health and infrastructure, banking sector clean up, and conclude that they did their best, given the global economic and financial circumstances.
