BLIND RESEARCH. Instead of focusing on exchange rate regime, why don't you rope in the monumental achievements by the government policies and achievements like the Free SHS, acquisition of bodycam, purchase of 3 helicopters for the police (first in history as far as Ghana is concerned, installation of CCT cameras on the streets of Ghana, continuous payment of salaries of government employees even during the pandemic and the current economic challenges, overhauling and improving the education sector (including registering school and private Junior High school BECE candidates), proving training and housing facilities for kayayoo, provision of housing units for the security service personnel, procurement of electric buses to be used in the system, provision of medical drone services through which emergency medical medine is supply, employment of over a million youth, etc. Tell us what your Mahama has done for Ghana apart from the corruption and incompetence?

Should anybody tell Prof. Abakah that currencies correlate with the underlying economies?
To expatiate, a strong economy results in a strong currency and vice versa.
Why is it so? A strong economy attracts foreign investments, (monetary and plant and machinery, inter alia) inflows to ease aggregate demand pressure on the indigenous economy (as an example, the US Dollar being changed into GH Cedis), and creates opportunities for domestic ones as well. The opposite holds true.
It is NOT true that Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war have not affected Ghana's economy.
1. Both countries are trading partners of Ghana (please refer to UN COMTRADE data, and the Observatory of Economic Complexity). As a con- sequence, the war has affected Ghana's economic fundamentals (GDP growth, foreign exchange earnings, unemployment, inflation.).
The study is superficial. An exhaustive one would have been helpful.
2. You cannot restrict repatriation of profits when you did not restrict capital flight into Ghana.
Profits HAVE to be repatriated to pay for leveraged money (loans from banks, family members, partners, etc.). The investment funds did not come from charity.
3. The GDP is a measure of periodic goods and services produced in an economy. Since human beings produce and consume the goods and use the services, it is just logical that covid-19 affected the world economies, though in different degrees.
Therefore, it not true that the pandemic did not affect Ghana's economic fundamentals, and the value of the cedi.
4. As I have commented in previous contributions on the depreciation of the cedi, it is a mixed blessing.
The exchange rate determines how much one pays for imports and exports.
A depreciating cedi is painful because imports become expensive, and cedi-denominated assets deplete leading to uncertainty in planning.
On the bright side, exports become cheaper, comparatively, to our trading partners.
So imports are constricted, and exports are expanded. That helps with our balance of payment positions.
We need a mid-point position where the cedi is neither weak nor strong, a win-win situation. Ghana should expand her export bases in terms of commodities diversification and destinations.
In conclusion, it is in the interest of Ghana for all of us to be honest in discussing our socio-economic problems, and not throwing dust into the eyes of readers based on one's political affiliation.

First of all, he assigned 11% as the impact of COVID 19 on Cedi depreciation.
Secondly, you wrote a lengthy critique of a newspaper report on a research paper, instead of the actual research paper.... congratulations to you.
