Yes , Isaac , this kind of leadership count on gullible people like you to keep voting for them! The factory also is making cement to sell to make a profit just like a tomato seller , you have increased ecg , given them so many taxes , increase fuel again and again making transfer of raw materials to the factory expensive ,yet you don't want them to increase prices . Do you understand ?

Let's keep our egos. We have very good results from the banking sector clean up. Let's clean up the industrial sector, starting with cement. We are always right. Let's run public office with our personal traits. God bless us.

There betrayal of trust on the part of cement manufacturers. There was no impasse and you cant blame the Minister. There was 100% cooperation when they lobboed for and happily worked with him to tighten standards and halt applications for new manufacturing licences for interested investors, in effect blocking new competitors. Apparently he proposed and they willingly accepted a deal (signed communique) with the Ministry to publish their ex-factory prices offered to major distributors to enable customers detect over pricing by retailers on the basis of easily available information on exfactory prices. And to discuss pricing mechanisms details in a Committee, in which they are represented. This was to be part of inputs into the development of a Uniform Pricing Mechanism that result in balancing the prices across the country, just is in the petroleum sector.
Let's focus on the bare facts in the build up to this stage.
We easily forget that indirectly through public-financed projects (schools, hospitals, roads) in the construction industry, government is the largest consumer of cement. What really are the alternatives to regulation, 100% deregulation, allowing anyone who wishes to import cement for sale or use to do so, and allowing many more manufacturers into the industry in line with free market theory. The cement manufacturers can't enjoy restrictions to competition that offers the protection and still insist on charging any price they so chose, without transparency. It smacks of taking advantage of restriction and colluding to raise or even set prices. I actually prefer 100% deregulation save for standards, with zero licences. It is for them to chose.
Ambushing the Minister through another associations invitation is unethical, after refusing to meeting him just because the media was present and despite his pleading.

Very good points. So should they not increase prices when their cost go up through Fx depreciation, taxes, utility price hikes etc? That is the real question here not the non disclosure of price breakdowns.

Good point …
100% deregulation and allow market forces to determine price versus some regulation to bring some sanity into pricing.

Being regulated does not means you can’t increase prices. Basically means there will be factors e.g exchange rate etc that will be used for adjustment in a transparent manner. I am not sure why the need for regulation as with free market economy we are practicing in Ghana markets forces will determine the prices. If you over price due to competition your market share will drop. Unless the manufacturers have come together and have an agreement on price adjustment that benefits them.
