@Tonto that is the mentality of the Ghanaian businessman, continue or maintain the status quo regardless of its effect on the larger population. Always blaming the exchange rate for the abnormal increase in price but in actual fact they are raking in huge profits only to spend this on "slay queens". I think the Bank of Ghana must also do same by setting up Foreign exchange offices at vantage points in the country to enable business men access foreign currency and stop supplying the commercial banks with our scarce foreign currency. It is difficult to deal with a black man on the issue of TRUST.

The govt should first pass a law determining the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar and pass another law reducing import duties on cement BEFORE passing a law to regulate cement prices.

It is very cheap to buy cement abroad. Unfortunately, the government of Ghana is protecting local manufacturers by imposing high import duties for cements bought abroad and shipped to Ghana. Unfortunately, these local manufacturers are charging very high prices for the cement. If the local manufacturers are talking of fairness, then they should allow people to buy cements abroad without being penalized with high import duties by the government.

With all the Tax Waivers these people are enjoying, still increasing cement prices anyhow all because of their self-interests. Look at Dzata cement for instance, now costly than even the foreign manufacturers own

Self-centered and wicked people...why those exorbitant increment almost everyday. Why can't you Manufacturers think of the ordinary Ghanaians a bit? I support the trade minister 100% on this move because the unsanity in the cement industry is too much. If parliament dare to reverse it, what happened in Kenya could happen here in Ghana. The grievances are accumulating and soon it will escalate for all to see. The youth are suffering with this increases everyday.

Ghana must move to a Tarif Regime- where everything in the country must have an approved Tarif.
The country cannot allow everybody to do what seems beneficial to him or her alone that is never done anywhere.
for eg,
if we allow Cement manufactural association to do what they want, then everybody must also do what he or she want.
there are certain commodities it cannot be allowed to be manipulated by the manufactural.
if you want to be in the Cement Business- the approved price is GHS 50/ bag if you think it is too small for you get out from that business.
in every Business , it doesn't matter what you would do , they will still demand for more- because business is about making profit- that is why the managers of the country should make sure certain things are put in place for the businessman not to exceed a certain threshold because it has a severe direct negative implications on the people which could affect the national economy.
I have said it before
that all the forex Bereue must be closed down.
everybody who want to foreign currency need to open 2 accounts both Cedi accounts and either Euro or Dollar Account in a specified dedicated Bank like GHANA COMMERCIAL bank
if you want foreign currency , just contact your bank to load money on your foreign currency account debit or credit card.
this alone could eliminate the fake currencies that is been traded to buy the dollars.
if you compare the imports to the GDP , Ghana suppose not to have a problem in currency rates, but why are we facing such a big problem- it is because of fake printed currencies that are operating in the country.
the demand of foreign currency outweigh our Gross domestic product like the Gold, Cocoa oil etc.
this is impossible.
2, why do we call certain companies operating in the country as DEVELOPING PARTNERS ?
these companies have a bilateral agreement with the government of Ghana- that they would make sure their profits are not repatriated from Ghana.$
so if big companies like Telcos are repatriating their profits every month from Ghana, such a company cannot be a developing partner, hence need to be eliminated from the system through whatever either mutual or legal means
we need to get seriously serious in this country

The government and parliament of Ghana must and should really come in with both legislation and other measures to dismantle this real CARTEL by cement manufacturers in cement pricing.in the country. With the coming of many producers of the cement in the country the expectation was that the prices of the product will be very moderate if not reduced. How the situation is seems to be worsening due to CARTELS in the system by cement manufacturers in their PRICING. The government, the opposition NDC and parliament must come in quickly before its too late. This PROFITEERING by these CARTEL cement manufacturing companies.
