Why is GRA foreign exchange rate for the dollar at the port is different from the Bank of Ghana foreign currency rate? Always the GRA rate is higher at the port than the Bank of Ghana rate. Why are our leaders killing local businesses by imposing high taxes on imported goods and services? There's nothing pleasant at the Tema Port. Our leaders are slowly killing us with their mismanagement and bad economic policies

The dollar is not backed by any mineral like the pound and other currencies but it's the confidence repose in the dollar that makes it so, why can't we as a country do same so that our cedi can match up, and also stop the looting and changing to dollars and hiding it under our beds for fear of being caught.
But I can tell one thing, the level of greed from oldmen to the young man is unimaginable hence we find ourselves in this predicament.
Our taste for foreign travel and foreign products by these leaders who inherited from their parents is what is killing the masses.
Unrill we decide that all leaders should educate their children here, attend hospitals here for a number of years to qualify to be a leader, we ain't going no where.
We keep doing the same things without getting results so we need to change and change is now.

They are overtaxing Ghanaians left and right like there’s no tomorrow. That senior Customs Officers who calculates the duties for imported cars are all criminals. First of all you are penalizing imported cars after ten years, what are your problems in making Ghanaians benefited from their own country’s ports. Shame unto you criminal officials.

The matter is, if for instance, the CIF of a car is $5,000, they convert the $5,000 to Cedis at the prevailing exchange rate given by GRA at the port and calculate duties, levies and taxes on the Cedi equivalent.
Then the importer pays these duties, levies and taxes in Ghana Cedis.
The only thing they use the exchange rate for is to convert from CIF currency to home currency.
