Aside what you written, the so-called 200 million pounds was just a sham. Nkrumah did not have a hold of that money. It was a British propaganda to wink the Nkrumah opposers that that huge money was residing in Ghana, and that Nkrumah was abusing that money.
All were not truthful. At the time of independence Ghana reserves or money was only lip-statement. The money was with the Brits while they deceive Ghanaians as though the money was in Ghana. Nkrumah needed money for some project yet the British refused. That is how wicked the British were. So Ghana was not having direct control of her own money. That was one of the primary motive behind the creation of the Cedi currency in Ghana and as part of Ghana weaning herself from the colonialist finally hence in 65 the cedi was finally ushered.
So, most of the money used to develop or do industries or projects in Ghana were moneys Nkrumah himself worked hard for with his Ghanaian work force in addition to loans from the Eastern bloc as the British were not releasing funds.
Unsurprisingly the British did some dubious calculations to steal that same money (200 million pounds) they claim Ghana had. The brits said that their workers who were still working as administrators etc needed severance packages and a whole lot dubious claims just to steal the money...
Nkrumah was not disturbed at all because already the money was out of reach to him hence he considered it a lost money. If the money was in Ghana do anyone think Nkrumah would have paid those british criminals their false claim of severance packages? of course not.
Those who were spreading that propaganda that Nkrumah has squandered Ghana's money, rather burnt the only documents that would prove the facts. Which means, either they (coup mongers) were fools for burning the evidences or they knew they were lying.

@Be wise, thanks for your response. The Danquah Busia Detritus did most of the propaganda and blatant lies about Nkrumah than the Brits themselves. Personally, I have done a hell of a lot of research about Nkrumah and British rule in Gold Coast/ Ghana. Britain was bankrupt after the second world war. They left us bugger-all. Nkrumah, the irreplaceable legend stopped them from siphoning the little that we had from building their bombed-out cities by Hitler. I have always
appreciated your Comments. Hopeless Busia could not even persuade Prime Minister Ted Heath, for a mere 5 million pounds for his so-called Rural Dev Project in 1971. Ted Heath, made that clear in his autobiography. Another good source of info, can be gleaned form a book written by the South African
writer Ronald Segal, printed and published in 1961 (African Profiles). Please, try and get a copy. It is a fantastic read. I was shocked to realise that Nkrumah, even got loans from the Eastern Block to build the Bui Dam in the 60s. Thanks for your usual erudite and insightful comments! Regards, Nsia.

Yes nkrumah accumulated debt with more than so much to show for it. Nkrumah served for only about 9 years and built the Tema-Accra motorway among many many many high value projects. With a combined period of almost 16 years in power busia's descendants, kuffour and AKuffo Ado, have not been able to provide common road markings on this motorway, let alone street lights. See the condition of the road today. Then go figure; how much is ghana's debt under the current regime alone. If you want to make comparisons in ghana politics no body should mention nkrumah because there will be nothing to compare with.

These and many other projects Osagyefo undertook were no depts because they still remain very vital to us even after 6 decades of their establishment. Nkrumah indeed was way too deep for these feeble minds to understand even to their present descendants. Long live the Osagyefo!

Even two or three of those massive projects is over the amount being mentioned and those were investments we are still enjoying today. At least he did not share the money to his family like Akufo Addo , Busia did to their foolish families. Nkrumah still stands tall.

A poor mans problem is poverty related and a rich mans problem is wealth related but as William Wallace senior tribesman advised him in the movie braveheart the ability to compromise is a mark of a nobleman and after so years after these men have lived their lives and gone the younger ones are still stuck fighting battle they couldn't finish in their lifetime, Let us try to keep the conversation strictly on economics.
Dr Busia, was accusing his fellow Dr, Nkrumah of wasting the resources of the new nation on frivolities and i think i heart an audio of the response of Dr Nkrumah urging Ghanaians to look around them and see the infrastructure project he had completed which is the bedrock of any modern and successful nation, i don't want to think that the Ghanaian is so naive not to see the politics being played here

You know we are the month of Ramadan so we don't have the strength to be engaging in these types of arguments, but the youth must find the time to read about these men including Dr J.B Danquah

@Acranie, under Nkrumah, any Ghanaian with more than ten pounds could open a business. You can cross check that as a fact. Have you ever bothered to check the definition of communism? Did Nkrumah cease all lands and means of production from individuals on behalf of the state as enshrined in Communism? . It was all American nonsense bought by ignoble and Sophist Busia. When Nasser of Egypt appealled to the US govt for a 70 million dollar loan to build the Aswan Dam, they refused on the grounds that he was a nationalist. He appealled to the Soviets, who build the whole project for him on generous terms. America"s
response was to accuse him of being a communist. Nkrumah, secured a loan from the Eastern Block to build Bui Dam the 60s, only for America and vile despicable Busia to accuse him of being a communist. 50 years later, shameless Kufuor went to Communist China for the same loan to build the same Bui Dam.
Frankly, some of you guys simply fail to think! And, I make no apologies for saying that!

Busia was a damn liar and an unrepentant saboteur. Those reserves at the time of independence had to be to used for development projects scattered across the new Ghana, something this mis-educated Busia failed to mention. This is the same Busia who along with his fellow Busia/Danquah Tradition of Traitors and Terrorists had been secretly working with the UK and the USA to undermine the new government of Ghana so that they can come into power through the back door. And with regard to figures that Busia was spitting out, had the reporter asked him to show proof of those figures, Busia would have swallowed his own tongue, for his lies would have caught him by surprise.

When Mahatma Ghandhi was confronted with the issue of casting the lot of indians resident in South Africa with that of the Native Africans or the White settlers, he chose the white settlers an there is a reason for it whether or not it was the right or wrong one let's leave that for the acceptance or otherwise of history
For the sake of the young ones reading our comments and for the good benefit of posterity since the internet is said not to forget things i'll proceed to lay out possible steps the nation could take to get it's feed back on the tract of sustainable economic development

Ghanaians forging a united national development plan which has the power to compel various governments to adhere to the said plan won't be easy, just to give you a peek into the current state of such a debate one has to review the presidential debate between the current president, the past president Dr Abu Sakara and the CPP guy the moderators of the debate was the current housing minister and vice president aspirant of the opposition party to cut matter short the question of having such a united Development Plan was brought up and the current presidents possition was that to give the Plan the

the current constitution is the parent of the type of government we are enjoying or enduring depending on how one looks at it, for the majority of Ghanaians it has become an obstacle on their path of development and i think both parties at sometime agreed on a review and if my memory serves me right the late president Atta Mills formed a commission to review it and make recommendations, millions of dollars was spent and a report was submitted but such a report couldn't be implemented because there was no political will and it's not surprising because political parties in Ghana couldn't bring themselves up to disclose their party account even thought it's mandatory and it's said that it's in the nature of man to be self serving aka winner takes all politics
The path i will trod will be the one recommended by our president, just like the abolishing of slavery in the west, or the women leberation movement enlightened Ghanaian have to come together and put pressure of all sorts on the representatives and governments to do the right thing and legislate a unifying development plan
