  Great idea. It will help tone down our debt accumulation. You only start paying dividends when the project is completed. Unlike our conventional system where we borrow to start paying coupons as soon as you take the money.

  It would have been better if you had used a sound monetary analogy encompassing the effect of money supply on currency depreciation and inflation which are triggers on either M1 or M2 monetary supply tools rather than Islamic Banking. There is an absolute reason interest and dividend are required to be paid while the project is ongoing besides banking profits consideration. This process helps to mop up excess cash in circulation!
  
  I always suspect and seem to believe that our professors are the problem of the various underdeveloped countries.

Would you use Runnable depositor's funds for years before paying them an interest or do you mean you would go for a long-term loan without interest to run such a model? In this modern age with the abundance of alternative investments, who would take such credit risk in the risky market??? Think about it, something is not adding up!!!

  Jackson, the argument made by the professor is not to say Islamic banking should be an alternative to traditional banking but a complement to it. He made the case that Islamic banking is a growing area and can’t replace traditional banking systems but it could be a complement to it. It ensures diversification of finances and have some sustainable benefits for any country. He again made the case of few banks in Ghana practicing it. These ideas should not just be thrown into the bin. On a lighter note, who is a weak professor and what’s your standard of comparison?

  Those M1s & M2s you alluded to are only theories. They don't wash in reality. Check the Western banking system, it has elements of what the good old Prof suggested to, negligible interest.

  There is no interest in Islamic banking and it works because there is a King of a religious leader who controls the nation. Most of the money belongs to the Govt or King.

  It's this same fate that'd befall islamic banking should it be introduced here. But let's pilot it and see how it goes

  You know this can't be possible as the country's parliament is packed with about 98% christian MPs who would not allow the president to go against what is laid down as a policy and rules governing the nation and yet you want to adapt a policy of the minority which conflicts with the traditions of the majority caucus who are the reprensentatives the country. Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia simply can't do that irrespective of their religious backgrounds. But with the parliament the country can be at peace. May be the reason why the chief Imam's special request to change the day for 2024 general elections and subsequent years ahead was totally rejected by EC to follow majority christian MP's. Thou shall not fear, Prof., for the checker system is in place.
