Head of Currency at the Bank of Ghana, Mr. Edward Musey has stated that the new 5 cedi note was only printed for the Ghana@60 celebrations but not to wipe out the already existing 5cedis note.

He explained that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to add to the celebration saw it welcoming to introduce the new note with distinct features.

Speaking exclusively mynewsgh.com Mr. Musey said the new 5 cedi note can be used with the old one and added that the general public must ignore speculations that the old one cannot be used anymore.

“We are not replacing the old currency at all. This is also in commemoration of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Bank of Ghana. You can use them interchangeably if you desire. The new note is a souvenir and cash at the same time so claims it is fake is not true”, he said.

He also said the bank is relentlessly working to prevent any attempt to counterfeit the new note.

“Counterfeiters are always out there trying to counterfeit our monies and that of other countries and we have to be on to the game to ensure that that doesn’t happen.

According to him, there are efforts “across all central banks to incorporate some of these modern security features in our notes so that we can avert any of those efforts to counterfeit our money”

He said the note has features that make it ‘enduring’ notes.
