MIIF mourns victims of August 6 helicopter crash

The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of eight prominent Ghanaians in the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The deceased include former Minister of Defense, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former Deputy National Chairman of the NDC, Dr Samuel Sarpong; former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye; former Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; former Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu; and former Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah.

In a statement, MIIF described the victims as “fathers, husbands, mentors, and pillars of democracy” whose service to Ghana was marked by patriotism and sacrifice.

The Fund paid special tribute to Dr Omane Boamah’s commitment to national security and Dr Murtala Mohammed’s advocacy for environmental protection and technological advancement.

“The tragic irony that these great men, who spent their lives protecting and serving Ghana, should perish while still in service fills us with overwhelming sorrow,” the statement read.

MIIF extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, the Government, the Chief of Defense Staff, and the people of Ghana, pledging solidarity with the bereaved families during this time of national grief.

“May their souls rest in perfect and everlasting peace,” the Fund concluded.
