Koforidua Total Two station launches campaign

Total Two Filling Station in Koforidua, in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission and Tigo, have launched a road safety campaign to ensure road accident free during and after the Christmas festivities.

Launching the campaign on Tuesday the Manager of the Station, Mr Isaac Brew, expressed concern about the high rate of road accidents in the Region in particular and the country as a whole.

He said the best Christmas gift drivers could give to Ghanaians was to ensure an accident free Christmas this year. "Precious lives are being lost on the highways through reckless and careless driving especially during Christmas festivities," he said.

Mr Brew appealed to drivers to be careful and to observe road traffic regulations to save lives and property, adding that every passenger wanted to travel and get home.

He urged drivers to be disciplined, maintain their vehicles, and avoid using worn-out tyres and defective headlights and unnecessary overtaking and speeding to ensure safety on the roads.

The Eastern Regional Manger of the National Road Safety Commission, Mr Kwasi Tsibu Yirenkyi, said this was one period when accidents shot up because of the rush on the roads.

He said research showed that commercial drivers were eager to take advantage of the increased human activities to maximize sales and through that they disregarded road traffic regulations, resulting in accidents.

Statistics from the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) showed that more people were losing their lives in accidents on the road and attributed them to human error.
