The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed that the government will use funding from its flagship 24-hour economy policy to complete the stalled Krofrom Market project in Kumasi.
According to him, instead of starting new markets, the government has decided to inject resources into stalled projects like Krofrom to serve as models for the 24-hour economy.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to establish 43 model markets across the Ashanti Region, with priority given to completing abandoned infrastructure.
Speaking in an interview about the progress of the Krofrom Market, Dr Amoakohene revealed that they decided to fund the project with the 24-hour economy policy funding, as there has been no dedicated fund for the stalled market project since its inception.
He further disclosed that plans are in place to fast-track the completion of the project.
"We started the process, and we’ll open the tender on the 26th and later award the project to a contractor. After that, we can legally make payments to the contractor as mobilisation for him to be on-site to start work," Dr Amoakohene explained.
The Minister believes that the completion of the Krofrom Market and other stalled market projects in the region will enable city authorities to properly decongest Kumasi.
