Ghanair In Another Bogus Deal

In a deal that has already set Roads and Transport Minister, Dr. R.W. Anane on edge, Ghanair Chief Executive Philip Owusu is on the verge of signing a bogus five-year deal in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with another baby aviation company called Global Air.

A team of Aviation Experts and Consultants put together by this paper have described the contents of the MOU as complete ?hogwash and balderdash? and fit for the trash can. Global Air, which has 3-5 BORONIA ROAD, BRISBANE AIRPORT, EAGLE FARM, QLD 4099, AUSTRALIA as its address, by its own admission is the owner of one B747-SP passenger aircraft in the following configuration, 16 first class, 24 business class and 245 economy class seats with a payload of 30 tonnes.?

The second part of the MoU with Global Air which is reported to have already been signed between Philip Owusu and Global Air is to ?give substance to the contents of the Aide Memoire prepared by Ghana Airways dated 8th December, 2003 which outlined the discussion?? between Ghana Airways and Global Air has been obtained by this paper.

What is most shocking about the deal apart from the ridiculous clauses contained in the MoU is that Philip Owusu is reported to have signed the deal without recourse to the Ghanair board.

The development resulted in an emergency board meeting at the Ghana Airways Club House at Cantonments in Accra last week to deliberate on his development which came as a shock to them.

Unionised staff of Ghanair also held a meeting at the same venue last Thursday. In an informal chat with Dr Anane last week, he expressed concern about developments at Ghanair and said efforts are underway by his Ministry to sanitise the situation.

Meanwhile, hints picked up by this paper point to the fact that the Ghanair board may soon be dissolved. Tongues are already wagging at Ghana Airways over the actions of Mr. Philip Owusu and the manner the MoU with Global Air has been signed.
