The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, launched a transformer upgrade programme across key areas in Accra to improve power supply and enhance service reliability.
The upgrade will focus on substations and surrounding communities including Adenta, La, Teshie–Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa, and Lashibi.
Residents in these areas may experience temporary power interruptions as essential works are carried out.
This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by ECG and the Government to reduce overloads, minimize outages, and ensure a more stable electricity network for households and businesses in rapidly growing parts of the city.

Speaking on behalf of the Energy Ministry, Spokesperson and Director of Communications, Richmond Rockson said: “We ask the public to kindly bear with government and the Electricity Company of Ghana as these transformer upgrade works are implemented. Although there will be temporary power interruptions, these improvements are necessary for a more reliable and resilient power supply in the long term.”
ECG has indicated that the works will be implemented in phases to manage the impact, with outage durations varying depending on the location and scope of the upgrade.
Residents are advised to make necessary arrangements and stay updated on outage schedules via ECG’s official channels.
The Ministry and ECG have reiterated their commitment to completing the upgrade efficiently while minimizing inconvenience to the public.
