The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC and allied commercial transport operators have issued a one-week ultimatum to spare parts dealers, demanding an immediate reduction in the prices of vehicle parts.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Abass Ibrahim Moro, the transport operators described the current spare parts prices as “unreasonable, unacceptable, and unsustainable,” warning that the rising costs were crippling their operations.

According to the operators, previous engagements with spare parts dealers had failed to yield results, despite assurances that prices would be reviewed.

“We cannot continue to operate with such high costs, and it is imperative that immediate action is taken to reduce prices,” the statement read.

The operators further warned that if prices were not reduced within a week, they would be forced to seek alternative suppliers, including foreign nationals, who could offer more competitive prices.

The ultimatum signals growing frustration within Ghana’s transport sector, which has already been struggling under the weight of fuel price increases, high maintenance costs, and dwindling passenger patronage.

Spare parts dealers are yet to officially respond to the demands.
