The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Ghana has made a strong call to action: to lead Ghana’s transition into a 24-Hour Economy through innovation, digitalisation and professional excellence.

At its 60th anniversary ceremony in Accra on August 20, 2025, government officials, industry leaders and global CILT executives underscored the institute’s indispensable role in transforming Ghana’s transport, logistics and supply chain systems.

The Chief of Staff of Ghana, Julius Debrah, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, said the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy rests heavily on the expertise of logistics and transport professionals.

“The 24-Hour Economy is about building an economy that never sleeps, where our ports, airports, warehouses and transport systems work seamlessly day and night,” Debrah said.

He added that; “CILT Ghana has the skills to make this vision a reality.”

CILT Ghana was also urged to partner with the government in building capacity for a digitally skilled workforce, modernising supply chain systems and promoting efficiency to align with global best practices.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who represented the sector minister, said collaboration with CILT Ghana will be critical in strengthening regulations and meeting international standards.

“Together, we shall champion innovation, modernise our transport infrastructure and ensure Ghana remains competitive on the global stage,” she stated.

CILT International President, Chief Teete Owusu-Nortey, applauded Ghana’s chapter for its remarkable contribution to the global CILT community over the institute’s 106-year history.

CILT Ghana President, Ing Mark Affum Amoamah, reaffirmed the institute’s readiness to meet the demands of a rapidly changing industry.

“As we celebrate our past, we are also looking to the future. The world of logistics and supply chain is changing at an unprecedented pace. CILT Ghana is ready to meet these challenges head-on by equipping members with the right skills, knowledge, and ethical values,” he said.

The event showcased how Ghana’s logistics sector is being reshaped by Artificial Intelligence, automation, digitalisation and climate resilience.

Experts said the 24-Hour Economy Policy will unlock Ghana’s productive capacity by boosting exports, attracting investments, creating jobs and positioning the nation as a global logistics hub.

President Mahama’s Big Push Agenda was highlighted as a complementary driver, focused on modernising infrastructure to sustain continuous economic activity.

The 60th CILT anniversary celebration reinforced the company’s role as a strategic partner in national development, with its expertise set to define the success of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy.
