Financial analyst, Professor Godfred Bokpin, is asking government to address Ghana’s public debt crisis and reduce expenditure overruns as it prepares to present the 2017 Budget Statement in parliament.

He also wants government to ensure that provision is made for the promises of the stimulus packages for the business community.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is expected in parliament on Thursday to discuss how he intends to use funds from the state coffers.

Professor Bokpin who is also the head of finance at the University of Ghana Business School said the government must endeavor to present a budget of hope.

“We want a budget that will signal hope to the economy and the signal that it will be business friendly, especially to the private sector, but it will be a budget dedicated on a good trade of between courting the business community and addressing imbalances in our economy at the micro level in terms of the fiscal leakages that they have inherited,” he noted.

This will be the maiden budget of the Akufo-Addo-led administration. The president has served notice the financial statement will “fix the ailing economy” inherited from the John Mahama government.
