The Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana), John M.K. Wumborti, on Thursday August 7, 2025, laid flowers in solemn remembrance of those who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash in Ghana.

The brief ceremony took place at the memorial site, where Wumborti, representing the Bureau, paid tribute to the victims and joined the nation in mourning their loss. His gesture was a symbol of compassion and solidarity with the bereaved families, friends, and the country as a whole.

Speaking at the memorial, John Wumborti said the thoughts and prayers of the entire Bureau were with the families during this time of grief, adding that the AIB stood united with the nation in honoring the memory of the departed.

Five government officials and three airforce pilots died in the helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. They were en route to Obuasi for a national assignment related to the fight against illegal mining.

The deceased included Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna.

The tragedy has left a deep mark on Ghana, uniting citizens in shared sorrow and reflection on the sacrifices made by those who serve and operate in challenging conditions.
