The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight high-profile individuals on Wednesday, August 6, near Adansi Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement issued Thursday August 7, 2025, the Bureau described the crash as a “national tragedy” and extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the entire nation.

“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I extend, on behalf of AIB Ghana, our deepest condolences to the bereaved families...and the entire nation. This devastating accident has shaken the very foundations of our institutions,” Acting Commissioner of AIB Ghana, John Wumborti said.

The victims of the crash were named as:

• Dr Edward Omane Boamah – Minister of Defence

• Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation

• Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

• Samuel Sarpong – Vice-Chairman of the NDC and former Regional Minister

• Samuel Aboagye – Deputy Director-General, NADMO

• Sqn. Leader Peter Baafemi Anala – Pilot

• Flying Officer Manin Twum Ampadu – Co-Pilot

• Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Crew Member

“These were men of service, courage, and integrity, dedicated to the peace, safety, and development of our beloved country,” the Bureau’s leadership stated.

The officials were reportedly on a special mission linked to anti-illegal mining enforcement when the helicopter went down in a forested area.

“While no words can adequately ease the grief being experienced, we stand in solemn solidarity with every family affected,” the statement added.

AIB Ghana emphasised the legacy of public service and patriotism the deceased have left behind.

“May their legacy of dedication and patriotism endure in the hearts of all Ghanaians,” the Bureau concluded.

The tragic loss has triggered an outpouring of national grief, with tributes continuing to flow from across political, civil, and diplomatic circles.

A period of national mourning has been declared, and flags are being flown at half-mast in honour of the victims.
