ECOWAS Games: Ghanaian boxers battle for final spots

Five Ghanaian boxers will be in contention for places at the finals of the ongoing Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games when the semi finals take place on Wednesday, June 20.

The quintet, made up of Duke Micah (Flyweight), Sulemana Tetteh (Bantamweight), Jessie Lartey (Light Welterweight), Musah Rahman Lawson (Welterweight) and Emmanuel Martey (Light Heavyweight) will be seeking to reach the finals of the second edition of the sub-regional Games.

Micah, one of four Ghanaian boxers to have qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games will face Senegalese Moustapha Mbalke in the Flyweight division, which will also see Nigerian Moussa Sahaba battling Adande Jesugon of Benin in the other semi final clash of the same category.

In the Bantamweight division, Tetteh will slug it out against Mahamadou Bohari of Nigeria whereas Amed Sadek of Burkina Faso will be engaging Okerinde Semiu of Nigeria.

Lartey will be up against Tadja Imonou of Benin in the Light Welterweight division whilst Sanon Kouesse of Burkina Faso clashes with Oladosu Rilwan from Nigeria in the same division.

Welterweight Rahman will contend with Ekpresso Djamiou of Benin for a place at the final with Malian Mahamadou Doukoure also facing Djiby N’diaye of Senegal.

Martey will face Sawadogo Boureimi of Burkina Faso in the Light Heavyweight division whilst Malian Sangare Nouhoun battles it out with Masebinu Adwale of Nigeria.

The finals, the Local Organizing Committee, will take place on Friday at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.**
