Accra, Feb. 9, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) on Tuesday lifted an indefinite suspension on three ring officials for their performance during an international championship last year.
The trio, Fred Ghartey, Shadrack Acquaye and May Mensah Akakpo, were slapped with the suspension after failing to collate the results of a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan African Super Lightweight title bout involving Albert Mensah and Isaac Quartey on December 26, 2009 at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
A statement signed by Mohamed Amin Lamptey, Communications Director of GBA said the latest development was necessitated following a review of the bout by the WBA Pan African President, Mr Stan Christodoulo and GBA Chairman, Mr Samir Captan in South Africa. The officials will also receive their officiating fees that were frozen as part of the suspension.
Meanwhile, the GBA has declared Albert Mensah winner of the December bout according to scores from the three officials. Akakpo scored 118-112 in favour of Mensah, Ghartey also scored 116-114 in Mensah's favour and Acquaye pegged the scores at 115-115. However, the GBA emphasized that Mensah will be decorated with the title on condition that he would meet Isaac Quartey of March 26, 2010 for a mandatory re-fight to be staged by GHALCA Promotions." 9 Feb. 10
