Ugandan To Defend Title In Ghana

Ugandan Africa Boxing Union (ABU) champions Mike Kiiza and Davis Lusimbo have landed invitations to defend their titles in Accra, Ghana on March 8.

According to the letter received through Commonwealth president, who is also the president Uganda professional Boxing Commission Celestine Mindra, super light weight champion Lusimbo will face Victor Kpadenou of the Republic of Benin while Kiiza takes on Josuah Kpakpo Allotey of Ghana.

'I would like to engage two of your ABU champions viz: Davis Lusmbo and Mike Kiiza to defend their titles on the bill of the night. I hope you may wish to give me a quick reply to engage your lads,' the undated letter signed by Dr. Don-Arthur read in part.

The two boxers, promoted by Gobtex International, have never defended their titles since acquisition here in July last year and have run out of the mandatory ABU duration of six month for a champion to have a challenger or lose the status.

Kiiza was to defend his title against fellow country man Machoman Kiwanuka in Kampala late last year but was interrupted by an invitation to fight in Cape Town. The fight aborted.

Mindra asked Gobtex to use the forty-five days effective January 11 to secure fights for boxers or their titles fall vacant.

Promoter Mugwanya said that he has replied the invitation to Ghana seeking viability of the deal before accepting it.

He said that if the Ghana fight aborts he would organize titles fights for Kiiza and Lusimbo on March 30.
