Sheriff Quaye challenges Benjamin Lamptey

Lightweight prospect Sheriff Quaye (6-0, 5 KO’s) has thrown down a challenge to reigning Ghana lightweight champion Benjamin Lamptey (9-0-1, 7 KO’s).

Both up and comers hail from James Town, the pugilistic community in Capital city Accra, making a matchup between the two a tasty national appetizer.

Quaye was last fought on Dec. 26, 2015, stopping Raymond Ansah in five one-sided rounds on the undercard of the Braimah Kamoko-Ayitey Powers rematch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Lamptey has been inactive since a June 2015 unanimous points win over Martin Ahiadekey.

Lamptey won the national title with a unanimous decision win over Michael Dodoo in April 2015 but Quaye is ready to take away the title from him.

“I’m throwing down a challenge to Benjamin Lamptey,” Quaye told Bukomboxingnews.com. “I want to rumble with him for the title because I have the quality to be the national champion.

“I know him very well because we live in the same community and I watched his fight against Michael Dodoo. In that fight, Dodoo made a lot of mistakes and if he accepts my challenge I will really show him what I’m made of.

“I’m building myself for the bigger opportunity ahead of me and I want to win the national title to prove to everyone that I’m a good boxer.”
