Accra, Jan 8, GNA - Ike Quartey, former World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight Champion has commenced work on a multi-million cedi hospital project situated at New Gbawe in Accra.

The Three storey multi-purpose project valued at 800,000 dollars will be known as Ike Quartey's Specialist Hospital.

According to Messrs Bortie and Afful, the project, which commenced three months ago, is expected to end in August this year since all the necessary materials are in place.

Speaking to the GNA Sports, Quartey said the project forms part of his efforts to give something back to the society which has nurtured him to his present state.

Quartey said the hospital will be furnished with modern equipment that will give the people of the community and the general Ghanaian public quality but affordable health care.

The boxer reiterated that the project will be completed in eight months time after which it will commence full scale operation. Quartey, however, pleaded with the appropriate authorities, especially the Government and the Ministry of Health to grant him some tax exemptions on the equipment he intends to import from the United States of America for the project to fully equip the hospital and bring relief to the people of the area.
