Mortein Boxing Awards Tonight

This evening at the Accra International Conference Centre, nearly 100 past and active Ghanaian boxers will converge for the first Mortein boxing awards night.

The programme, to be held under the auspices of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), will confer honour on outstanding performers who graced the first edition of the Mortein boxing championship.Prominent Ghanaian boxers who have brought honour to the country will also receive recognition.

These, according to Mr E. M. Charway, General Secretary of the GBA, include boxers who have held world, Commonwealth, and other prominent titles during their careers.

For that matter, patrons of tonight?s event will find the great Azumah Nelson sharing the same platform with former WBA welterweight champion, Ike Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu who once held the WBC International flyweight crown, Ghana?s first world champion D. K. Poison, Wonder Tackie, among others.

The Black Panther Boxing Gym in Accra will receive the top award after winning the league that ended early this year.

The awards programme earlier scheduled for last month had to be delayed due to sponsorship difficulties, and once it is held, it will pave way for the next edition of the made-for-TV Mortein boxing championship
