Malik Jabir Fights For Commonwealth Title

Promoter Tommy Gilmour has warned Glasgow super-featherweight Craig Docherty that opponent Abdul Malik Jabir (from Ghana) will be another boxer out to silence the home crowd at the Bellahouston Sports Centre this weekend.

The odds will be stacked against the Ghana fighter when he jumps in the ring for the Commonwealth championship on Saturday.

But he only needs to look at Mexican Manuel Medina and Manchester's Michael Gomez for inspiration after they marched into Scotland to conquer home heroes Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur respectively.

Gilmour said: "Craig will have to be careful in the same way that Alex had to be against somebody that was up for it in Gomez.

"There is no doubt that Jabir will come in exactly the same way. The Ghanaians are known for their physical toughness.

"He is tall and tough, so Craig will need to make sure he really puts the pressure on." Promoter Tommy Gilmour has warned Glasgow super-featherweight Craig Docherty that opponent Abdul Malik Jabir will be another boxer out to silence the home crowd at the Bellahouston Sports Centre this weekend.
