Homowo Boxing Fiesta hits Osu Tuesday night

The Oxford Street in Osu in Accra takes centre stage tonight when the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) makes a second stop for the 2011 Homowo Boxing tournament. After last week’s huge patronage and success in Bukom, GAABA officials are promising that Osu will be a step higher. “We are very satisfied with the response of the people in Bukom, they were here in their numbers and we hope to have an even bigger crowd in Osu on Tuesday,” said Hon. Wallace Nii Tackie-Komme, 1st Vice Chairman of GAABA. The tournament which was first held last year in Bukom, Osu and Teshie has expanded this year to include Nungua and Tema. Involving competition in all weight categories, it will be held at all these traditional areas in Accra when they take their respective turns to celebrate the annual Homowo festival. GAABA say it is very useful as it serves as breeding grounds for identifying, nurturing and developing boxers for national team benefit.
