Greater Accra beat Central Region boxing team

Cape Coast, Sept. 5, GNA - The Greater Accra Regional Amateur boxing team defeated their Central Region counterpart 5-1 in a special "Afahye boxing" tournament held at the Robert Mensah stadium, Cape Coast on Thursday night.

The tournament was organised by the Central Regional Sports Council with support by MTN to offer entertainment for the Afahye celebrants and also rekindle the interest of the youth in boxing. The most exciting bout was the Lightweight contest between Kwesi Annobil of the Central Region and Benjamin Lartey of the Greater Accra in which the latter lost 2-1. The two boxers gave e good account of themselves and stood toe to-toe in the last round as they traded punches to the admiration of the enthusiastic boxing fans. In the Flyweight contest, George Addy of Greater Accra out-boxed Duke Micah of Cape Coast 3-0, Emmanuel Quartey of Accra also made mince meat of Tony Akuruta of Cape Coast with a 3-0 score in their Bantamweight contest.

Nii Ofori Tetteh of Greater Accra also beat Anthony Amissah of Cape Coast 3-0 in their Featherweight contest while Frank Zoya of Cape Coast added to a miserable night for the Cape Coasters with a narrow 1-2 loss to Michael Ansah of Greater Accra in the Featherweight contest. 05 Sept. 08
