Ghana to host CBC annual general meeting

Accra, Nov 6 - GNA - Come October next year, Ghana will be the venue of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Commonwealth Boxing Council, (CBC) where vital decisions affecting the sport in the international body will be taken.

Mr Moses Foh Amoaning, acting chairman of the Ghana Boxing Association said the hosting right was awarded to Ghana based on the exquisite presentation the GBA made to the Council in March.

He said they prevailed upon the CBC that the occasion would not only be a forum for discussions and decisions, but would enable participants to have a feel of the rich culture of Ghana and expose visitors to the tourist attractions in the country.

Mr Foh -Amoaning said in order to make the occasion unique, the GBA has planned a Commonwealth Boxing Awards Night, where personalities in the organisation who have distinguished themselves in boxing would be honoured.

He said there would also be championship fights for African, Commonwealth and world titles, as an icing to the occasion, which would give Ghana the chance to become prominent in multi national boxing caucuses such the WBO, the WBA and the WBO and hold some executive positions on them.

The acting chairman said the event has the potential of focusing world attention on Ghana and helping our boxers to get the necessary recognition from boxing governing blocks such as the West African Boxing Union (WABU) and the African Boxing Union (ABU) to push them up for title fights.

Mr Foh-Amoaning said Ghana has a new generation of potential world champions in Joseph Agbeko, Abdulai Amidu, Kpakpo Allotey, James Toney and Raymond Narh and it is incumbent on the GBA to direct them to achieve their full potentials.

He said within the next few weeks the GBA will constitute committees from the business community and the ministry of Youth, Education and Sports and within their own ranks to begin planning for the AGM.
