Ghana excels in Triangular Boxing Champion

Accra , Mar 08, GNA -The National Amateur Boxing team, the Black Bombers swept seven of the nine prizes of the 55th Independence Voltuic Triangular Boxing Tournament on Tuesday at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The competition organized by the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) was part of the Federation’s preparations towards an African Olympic qualifier scheduled for April 27 to May 6, in Casablanca, Morocco.

Suleman Tetteh, 49kg overpowered his Beninois opponent , Sanoussi Yacoubou with a 14-3 point decision in their Light Flyweight division, with Ghana’s Abdul Wahid recording a 7-5 win over John Faizanli in the Flyweight division.

Jesse Lartey defeated Loco Clement in the Bantamweight division 7-2 with Ghana’s Michael Amoo-Bediako falling 8-10 to Chitou Chafiq in the same division.

Musah Rahman Lawson thrashed Joel Amossou 23-2 in the Light Welterweight division while Azumah Mohammed shrugged off Amoussou Frank Jeannot's challenge to win 6-5 in the Welterweight division.

Emmanuel Martey beat Beninoi’s Houbkpevi Justin with a 7-6 score, whilst Fataou Garadima of Benin retired few minutes into the second round after receiving severe beatings from David Bawa in the lLght Heavyweight division.

Ghana was adjudged the best performing team and was presented with a trophy, while each boxer received a medal, a certificate and cash prize.

Ray Quarcoo, President of GABF expressed satisfaction with the performance of the competitors.

“It was a keenly contested exercise, we are looking forward to replicating the same feat in the African championship.”

The Voltic Triangular Boxing Tournament comprised Ghana, Benin and Gabon.
